How To Build A List Of Customers

If you have been in the internet marketing arena for more than a few days, I could bet that you have already heard or read the saying “the money is in the list”.  Most marketers and gurus will tell you that the money is in the list and that you should focus on building your email list, but very few people actually stop and tell you how to build your email list.  This article is all about how to build a list.  I will not focus on the benefits of list building, but will rather show you what steps you must take to build a profitable email list.

One of the best-kept secrets of list building is that quality is better than quantity.  You will hear time and time again that the bigger your list is the more money you will make.  This is true, but it is incomplete.  You will make more money from a bigger list only if you have focused on building a quality list.  A quality list is a list of responsive subscribers that like you, trust you, and are eager to open your emails, take your advice and buy what you are selling. 

To build a highly responsive list of subscribers you will first of all need a website.  Although it is not absolutely required, I recommend you buy your own domain name; this will give a better first impression and will make you look more professional and trust worthy than if you have a page in a free hosting account full of ads.

Once you have your own domain name and hosting you must enlist an autoresponder service.  These services are specialists in email deliverability.  They will help you capture your visitors name and email addresses, and will send your subscribers the emails you have pre-written in previously determined time intervals.  Autoresponders are extremely powerful marketing tools because in the eyes of your subscribers it is almost as if you had taken time out of your busy day to write them an email full of advice.  I personally use the autoresponder services of AWeber.com, but have also heard great things of GetResponse.com.

Autoresponder services like AWeber and GetResponse will give you a piece of code you must insert in your website in order for them to capture your visitors’ name and email address.  In order to entice your visitors to give you their personal information I highly recommend you offer some type of free product or service.  In order to do this, you just set up a different page in your website where your visitors can download your free product, then you point your autoresponder thank you page to the page you just created.  That way your visitors enter their information, and they are immediately redirected to the download page.  For an example of how I have done this, check out http://www.turnideasintocash.com

Your free gift should be something of value and great quality.  Remember this is your first impression, so you want to make it a good one.  Once you have subscribers in your list you want to make sure you always provide plenty of value in the emails you send them.  Don’t just send them promotional emails or they will be very quick to click that “unsubscribe” link.  Send valuable advice and recommend products that you are sure will help them.
If you follow these steps to grow your email list and your nurture the relationship you have with your subscribers, you will have a very profitable email list that will grow your income for years to come.

Many people sometime in their lifetime consider starting a business of their own. Lately, these entrepreneurs at heart tend to resort to the internet as the medium for their businesses. First of all, your idea has to be something that excites you and drives you. You have to be completely passionate about what you want to do in order to be successful at it. It is very hard to find a successful entrepreneur that doesn’t like what he is doing. When you think of a business idea, consider whether you would be happy doing that for the rest of your life. Is your investment buying you freedom or is it buying you a job? It is interesting to me to see the number of people that invest their life savings in a business that doesn’t appeal to them; you see them buying franchises to become professional burger flippers, pizza toppers and chicken fryers, and they slave away firing manager after manager in order to make their business successful.

Once you have found an idea that sounds exciting, you should try to determine whether you can afford to carry it out. In this stage of the process it is necessary to find out how much will it cost to launch the business, but most importantly, how much it would cost to keep the business running. At first it is very likely that you will not be profitable; you have to make sure you have enough capital to run the business for at least two or three months without making a penny. It pays to be pessimistic when it comes to this. You should find out whether you are going to need partners, investors or creditors in order to finance your operation.

Another point to consider is how much work (labor) will take to keep the business running. If you are going to require a customer service department, or shipping department, then you must see how many people you will need to employ. This will be closely related to the budget aspect of your business plan; the more people necessary to run the operation, then the more money you will need to start out.

Last, but not least you must consider the most important aspect of all –the one you have no control over: time. Do you have the time to manage your business or will you have to hire somebody else to manage it? The more time your business takes out of you, then the less time you will have to start another venture.

In conclusion, you want a business idea that drives you, something that is within your budget, it doesn’t take too much labor to keep it running and it is time friendly. Only with a business model like this will you be able to succeed online.
